I find it difficult nowadays to figure out the proportion of a bicycle frame in the total price. Actually, I don't think it's difficult, just that people don't think about it. And that's a real shame, because I've often jumped to a quick conclusion when seeing framesets come out at \u20ac3,000, telling myself they didn't give a damn about us poor cyclists who think bikes cost \u20ac300 to make and are resold at 10 times the price.<\/span><\/div>\n

It is therefore easy to think that by getting an exotic frame for \u20ac700, you are bound to be getting a bargain, since hey... You've just saved nearly \u20ac2,300 on the frame alone.<\/span><\/div>\n

        When choosing the bikes, I wanted to include 2 brands that are aggressive in terms of pricing (Canyon and Van Rysel) as well as an average brand (SUNN). We can see that the frames are not priced at crazy levels. Van Rysel and Canyon manage to achieve a very low price by keeping control over some of the components (handlebars, seatpost, stem), which is not the case for SUNN.<\/span><\/div>\n

        Furthermore, they also benefit from a higher sales volume, giving them greater leverage with suppliers (Shimano and SRAM) when negotiating prices for the following year.<\/span><\/div>\n

        So, no, brands aren't getting rich off the backs of cyclists.<\/span><\/div>\n

        However, it must be taken into account that my examples are not representative of all brands. I am thinking of Specialized, Colnago, Pinarello... who allow themselves to sell bikes above \u20ac10,000.         1. You just broke your frame and you notice that brands only sell their high-end frames for \u20ac3,000 \/ \u20ac4,000. By buying an exotic bike, you will find a high-performing frame at a lower cost.<\/li>\n
        2. You want a specific geometry, with inserts in specific places. You will surely find what you are looking for in the multitude of offers.<\/li>\n
        3. You want to buy a frame with exceptional carbon fiber for racing. Indeed, for \u20ac700, you can get a Toray 1000 frame, which is the best on the market. This yields a frame weighing around 900 g and a fork around 400 g, resulting in a responsive frame. Comfort? That's for people over 36 (I'm 36.).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

          The bad reasons for choosing an exotic setting<\/h1><\/div><\/div>\n\n

          1. The desire for a cheap bike. If you want a complete bike for under \u20ac1,000, go to Decathlon and you will find a good companion. If you want to build your own bike, the budget must be around \u20ac2,000, using secondhand parts.<\/li>\n
          2. Buy over there and resell here. I don't think it's easy to make money on an exotic frame. Second-hand, cyclists will always prefer to buy a brand they know to avoid unpleasant surprises. And even in the event of a sale, the necessary depreciation will make you lose all the savings made at the time of purchase.
